PROJECT W
Project W belongs to Gaynor
(Melanie Craig Design Director and
Designer) and John Wilson. My name is Gaynor and I must confess, I am a
addictive-serial-renovator and will be sharing with you 'Project W' and
extensive renovation/rebuild in Wanaka.
Project W also provides a perfect
oppourtunity to show case
Melanie
Craig Design, our professional skills, creativity and project
management. On completion we would
like to open Project W to the public for a limited time. We will keep
you posted regarding dates.
The Kennedy Crescent home was
purchased after researching
properties
for a year in the area.
We loved the house for its
location in an eatablished part of
Wanaka
in a quiet
elevated street. We adored the north facing private section location
with its gorgous mature spreading
elm and cherry tree with the addded bonus of impressive lake and
mountain views.
We recongnised the potential in the 1960's house. It is PERFECT for the
project challenge
that we have been looking for.
PLAN OF ATTACK
Step 1. Concept Plans - Our
main objectives
To add a north double garage, the roof of the garage would
allow
decking for outdoor flow from 1st floor to private north garden.
Work on existing exterior walls on ground and 1st level.
Re-clad and glaze entire exterior with more contemporary manterials and
configuration
Re-line entire interior complete with effective insulation
Utilise existing un-useable garage for self contained guest area
Add mezzanine floor - to take advantage of view and add another
dimension to reasonably small living area
Split over-sized bathroom into ensuite and common shower room
Step 2. Kitchen concept plans
drawn
'Design me a kitchen and I will wrap my house around it' is
MCD's
moto. Melanie Craig loves getting plans at an early stage as it allows
all aspects of the kitchen to be discussed
in depth along with plumbing, electrical, walls and windows. All things
that can complicate and retrict desired results.
Concept plans drawn and then discussed with draftsman to get consent
Drawings and engineering plans finalised
Step 3. Interviewing Builders
M&A builders ticked all our boxes.
They had a strong background in renovating. They liked the fact that
although we had solid plans there would be elements of design that
would evolve with the project.
October 2010
MCD & John take on roll of project management.
Undressing begins ...
